Paul Cullen is an Irish-born immigrant and a professional chef who arrived in Australia in 1984 to work for a leading hotel in Cairns, Queensland. He came to Tasmania in 1995 and took up the position as Executive Chef at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, where he served for five years. In a remarkable career change, he was named Station Leader for Australia’s remote Casey Station in Antarctica in 2000, serving there for more than a year before returning to his family in Hobart. He then turned his attention towards directing major public events, including the Hobart Midwinter Festivals, the Taste of the Huon, the Taste of Tasmania and the Tall Ships Festival. Paul is currently the General Manager of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, which has won numerous awards, including Community Event of the Year in Hobart City Council’s Australia Day Awards. The festival was voted one of the top three events in Australia (along with the National Flower Show and the Melbourne Cup) at the 2015 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. Paul is also the director of the Australian Antarctic Festival, now in production for August 2018. Paul and his wife Dorcas have been happily married for more than 45 years. They have three adult daughters and two grandchildren, all proud Australians.
